Celebration of the Green Belt Days in Belasitsa
Celebrating successful cooperation for nature and people in Belasitsa/ Belles
 
More than 200 people in total participated in the Celebration of the Green Belt Days in Belasitsa. The event took place at three different locations, two of them in Bulgaria and one – in Greece, lasted two days involving six partners from three countries. A journalist and a photographer from Agence France-Presse attended the whole two days in order to prepare a text in French and English with images.

At the closing session of UNESCO Summer University was discussed the future perspectives of BR Central Balkan
On 26th of July from 5 p.m. at the Cultural Information Centre in Troyan the closing session of the UNESCO MaB Summer University was held. The event was opened with greetings from the Deputy Mayor of Troyan Municipality Bistra Cholakova. Mrs Cholakova talked abou the history of Troyan Municipality and demonstrated the long-term connection between the preserved nature, crafts and ancient Bulgarian traditions in the region. She underlined that the essency of biosphere reserves is in the successful combination of these elements and that is why she is very proud that Troyan Municipality is one of the hosts of the UNESCO Summer University.

Day 4 of UNESCO Summer University we learned more about branding and marketing of BRs
The 4th day started a little different from the previous days as the group divided in two. While ones learned what it is to fly in a tandem paraglider flight at lift Sopot, others preferred to visit “Damascena” Complex in Skobelevo village and to hear more about rose oil production and rose picking, which are spreading the glory of Bulgaria all over the world for almost 3 centuries already.

On the third day of UNESCO Summer University - Sustainable Agriculture, Local Products and Business at Central Balkan Biosphere reserve
With a bit of a misty morning, the third day surprised the participants with slight rain and amazing breakfast prepared by Lift Sopot. After having some homemade mozzarella from the farm, everyone joined the tour around the Lift and the nearby pool and was given the chance to learn more about Gelato and Latte, Lift Sopot and Rozino Organic Farm and their business model.

UNESCO Summer University will start on 21st of July
Less than few days to the beginning of UNESCO Summer University. This is an International initiative of the Regional Bureau for Europe, based in Venice (BRESCHE). It was started four years ago and aims to attract and train young specialists from all over the world on topics related to the development of biosphere reserves. Bulgaria is a host for the first year of the event and activities will be performed in the southern and northern part of Central Balkan Biosphere Reserve.

UNESCO Summer University will be in the "Central Balkan" Biosphere Reserve
Bulgaria hosts for the first time the UNESCO Summer University, which aims to provide a high-quality training to post graduate students, young scientists, and practitioners from Biosphere Reserves from Europe and the Mediterranean on “Integrated management, sustainable tourism, and promotion of biosphere reserves”. Additionally, the Summer University will seek to engage the participants through an active learning process, providing them with the opportunity to develop ideas for joint projects focusing on further promotion of BRs and the MAB programme, while also experiencing first-hand the rich natural and cultural heritage of the Central Balkan BR.

Demonstration To Save Our Seas And Deliver Petition To International Meeting Of Environment Ministers
What:
Local NGO Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation and supporters will join with international campaigning organisations Seas At Risk, WeMove.EU and Our Fish, to deliver a petition to the Minister of Environment of Sweden, Per Ängquist, on behalf of the EU Council of Environment Ministers. The demonstration will include animal mascots and a huge banner calling for action to protect our seas and end overfishing.

Priority steps in the fight against the barkbeetle - Similarities and differences between Bulgaria and Austria
The problem and the fight with barkbeetle provoked a serious interest at the two-day exchange of experience in Kyustendil on 8 and 9 March 2018, which was organised by BBF and Euronatur. A total of 53 participants - representatives of local and national institutions and organizations, as well as guests from Macedonia - took part in the exchange of experience and main lecturer of the seminar was Mr. Bernard Perni from the Forest Protection Institute at the Forest Research Center, Austria. Besides the lectures and discussions in the hall, the participants also had the possibilities to discuss the issue during a field trip led by engineer Tony Kolev, Director of Forestry unit Kyustendil.
