Agence France Press (AFP) published an article for Belasitsa as part of the Green Belt Initiative on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Iron Curtain. The global network of Agence France-Presse covers 151 countries. The material desribes the transformation of the regions from a forbidden territory with restricted access to a "green haven" - a place for preserving of biodiversity and nature tourism. The material highlights the connection between nature heritage and the opportunities for the developments of local regions.

The journalists attended the Green Belt Days, which took place in Gabrene village and National Park Kerkini between 24th and 25th of September 2019. Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation, Belasitsa Nature Park Directorate, Lake Kerkini National Park Management Authority (Greece), Planetum Association (North Macedonia), Town Hall and Community Center of Gabrene village were the organizers of the Green Belt Days. The promotion of the Green Belt Initiative in Bulgaria is supported by the German organization EuroNatur which is cooperating with Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation in its work on the Green Belt.
